Forest Hills Foods (cafe area)

A decidedly non-supermarket feel. Not many outlets and spotty cell phone coverage, but affordable consumables and solid connectivity. Although the cafe closes before the store does, the seating area is not closed off.

Rita Va Al Supermercado (2000)

Who offers free wifi in a grocery store? When I first heard that Forest Hills Foods offered wireless in their cafe, I imagined bright flourescent lighting with unobstructed views of canned goods. Ed's brief comment about his visit did nothing to dispell my notions, yet I wanted to give it a try as a central location for the two of us to meet and hash out the details of a joint project read more...

Tucked away in the corner....

This is a busy supermarket in a nice area of GR and tucked off in the corner is a sitting area/cafe/counter area for the lunch crowd. My first visit-- the staff were very friendly but the wireless network was down. Next visit-- network worked well, good connection, good signal strength, very limited outlets. The place closes down after 7PM. Nice place for a mid-day bite or coffee.

Jim is right. One big drawback is the lack of outlets. Definitely a non-supermarket feel. Is fairly loud.

As an employee of the store I rarely have bad things to say about the store. I've never actually used my laptop there but I know feel it's still worth while. When the cafe was expanded wireless was not in the equation so Jeff (the owner) did not think about having more plugs put in ... unfortunatly. Forest Hills has a great IT guy who is on top of keeping the wireless running.

Nice cafe, bad connection

by MEG on Sat Sep 09 2006 at 02:42 PM

I love this grocery store and it's wonderful cafe. The first hour I was there the connection was flawless, on airport (mac) I had to choose FH-cafe for my wifi. Then an hour later it said I had no connection to the internet, this time airport recognized FHF-internet as the wifi system. From then on my computer tried to open each web page 10 TIMES before successfully opening it. I pulled out a book to read b/w web pages! I remembered reading about the IT guy, he came over, to no avail. I left. Good coffee, good deli/cafe, connection -depends.
